The Qiwamah of Men
Arabic original
الرِّجَالُ قَوَّامُونَ عَلَى النِّسَاءِ بِمَا فَضَّلَ اللَّهُ بَعْضَهُمْ عَلَىٰ بَعْضٍ
Translation
Men are qawwamun over women, because Allah has preferred some of them over others
Explanation
Ibn Kathir's Tafsir: (Men are qawwamun over women) meaning: The man is the guardian of the woman, meaning he is her leader, her superior, her judge, and her corrector when she goes astray. (Because Allah has preferred some of them over others) meaning: because men are better than women, and the man is better than the woman; and for this reason, prophethood was exclusive to men, as was the greatest kingship, due to the saying of Allah's Messenger, peace be upon him: 'A people who entrust their affairs to a woman will never succeed.' Narrated by Al-Bukhari.
